Fox's GRIP2 Damper is hands down their best feeling damper to date. Not only is it more adjustable than past Fox dampers, but it's completely redesigned to be extremely sensitive too! This upgrade kit will fit any 2020 and newer Fox 38.
*NOTE - Fox 5wt PTFE Oil is required for the GRIP2 damper. You can not install this damper with any other type of oil.
The Fox 38 version of the GRIP2 damper fits in any model of Fox 38 fork including the Factory, Performance Series Elite and Performance Series models. This is a plug-and-play installation without any modifications required to the fork. You do need to use Fox 5wt PTFE Infused Oil in the damper-side lower leg to lubricate the damper, and this is the only oil that you can use with the GRIP2 damper.
You do not need to pay any attention to your fork travel when upgrading your damper. The damper only has a maximum travel extension, but not necessarily a minmum travel compression. The Fox 36 can be set all the way down to 150mm of travel via different air springs, and the GRIP2 damper will simply compress within the fork to match the fork's travel.
GRIP2 Damper Maximum Travel (DO NOT EXCEED): 180mm
Included is (1) GRIP2 damper with all of the adjustment knobs for the compression and rebound circuits, a new foot nut and a new crush washer.
If your fork has under 50 hours of riding on it you can simply remove your current damper and install the new GRIP2 damper without dropping the lower legs. All you need for this is a bottle of Fox 5wt PTFE Infused Oil for the damper-side lower leg to lubricate the damper, and this is the only oil that you can use with the GRIP2 damper. You will need a 28mm Chamferless Topcap Socket to install the GRIP2 damper, and need a 26mm Chamferless Topcap Socket to uninstall the current GRIP damper. We would also recommend using a syringe to easily insert the oil into the stanchion. If your fork has over 50 hours of riding on it we would recommend dropping the lower legs and performing a basic lower leg service. You might as well do this to avoid upgrading your fork with a more sensitive damper, only to be potentially held back in performance from sticky lowers that could benefit from a lowers service. For this procedure, you will need Fox 5wt PTFE Oil for the damper-side lower leg, Fox 20wt Gold Oil for the spring-side lower leg, Slickoleum to lubricate seals, a syringe to easily insert the oil into the stanchion and a Fox 8.2mm ID Crush Washer for the air spring. You will need a 28mm Chamferless Topcap Socket to install the GRIP2 damper, and need a 26mm Chamferless Topcap Socket to uninstall the current GRIP damper. We also recommend using Maxima Suspension Clean to clean out the lower legs and Fox Lower Leg Removal Tools to make things easier. If your fork has over 75 hours of riding on it we would recommend performing a lower leg service and installing new dust wipers since you are at the interval for dust wiper replacement. For this procedure, you will need Fox 5wt PTFE Oil for the damper-side lower leg, Fox 20wt Gold Oil for the spring-side lower leg, Slickoleum to lubricate seals, a Fox 38 Dust Wiper Kit to get new dust wipers/foam rings/crush washers, a Fox 38mm Seal Driver to install the new dust wipers and a syringe to easily insert the oil into the lower legs.

To do this: Remove your current damper, insert your GRIP2 damper into stanchion with the adjustment knobs removed, install the lower crush washer and tighten the foot nut, use a syringe to insert the 5wt PTFE oil into the stanchion in the space underneath the top of the damper, thread the top of the damper into the crown and finally install the GRIP2 damper adjustment knobs. If your fork has over 50 hours of riding on it please read the section above to learn about our service and installation notes as we do recommend dropping the lower legs to service the fork while you install your new GRIP2 damper.
