FAQ

Can I install the pressure relief valve buttons on a Fox 38 Performance GRIP fork?

Yes, you can install these into any Fox 36 or 38 with the threaded holes for the pressure relief valves on the back of the lower legs. This includes the Performance Series with GRIP damper. There is a bolt (or plug, as Fox calls it) in the threaded hole that you will unthread and remove, and then thread in these pressure relief valves.

How do I install the pressure relief valve buttons on a Fox 38 Performance GRIP fork?

*Perform this installation with the fork positioned face down, or tilted forward in a repair stand, or with the bike flat on the ground with both tires. If you attempt to remove the valves/plugs with the fork upside down or tilted upward, you wil lose oil from your fork's lower legs.

  • Start by removing the plug bolts from the back of the lower legs on your Fox Performance Series 36 or 38 with a 5mm allen wrench.
  • You will then replace the plugs with the new bleeder valves by threading them into the fork by hand until snug.
  • Next, use a 13mm socket to tighten the bleeder valve to a final torque of 45 in-lb (5.0 Nm).

You can find full installation instructions by Fox here: 2021 36mm and 38mm Mud Guard Installation

What are the torque specs for installation of the pressure relief buttons?

When installng and tightening the Fox 36/38 lower leg pressure relief valves, you will torque them to 45 in-lb (5.0 Nm) using a 13mm socket.

Should I use the red rubber caps to cover the bleed valves after installation?

Those red rubber caps that are included in the kit are used primarily for shipping reasons. Brand new aftermarket Fox 36 and 38 forks that come from the factory with the bleeder valves will have these rubber caps protecting the valves while in the box to protect them from damage during shipping. There is no downside to using them on your bike, but they are definitely not needed for any purpose of keeping debris out of the valves or anything. It is very uncommon for us to see anyone using these covers after being taken initially taken off from the package.
