This custom Chromag Stylus belongs to our awesome customer Pearce who wanted to build a one of a kind hardtail that not only looked good, but also rode exactly the way he wanted. We worked together closely with Pearce and recommended about half of the parts he went with. The heart and soul of this ride is a 2020 Chromag Stylus in the Daydreamer colorway. Not only does this frame just pop and stand out in regards to the colors, but it's going to ride mega fun as well! The geometry is aimed at doing pretty much any kind of riding; literally. Chromag labels their Stylus as their "do everything bike" and is meant for everything from dirt jumps to downhill, which is exactly why Pearce chose it. Overall this is seriously just a one of a kind build with the super matchy colors and component selection.
Pearce wanted a 27.5+ setup, so we built him some wheels with DT-Swiss M542 rims laced to Industry Nine Hydra hubs. These hubs have a ridiculous 0.52° engagement and have basically zero slack in between pedal strokes, and the M542 rims have a 35mm internal width which perfectly suits those plus tires. The rubber Pearce chose is the 2.8" WTB Ranger with a CushCore front and rear to seriously smooth out the ride. We've said it time and time again, but a hardtail with CushCore in the rear at the very least is AMAZING and we'd seriously recommend it to everyone.
Since hardtails don't have a rear shock to create a smooth ride in the rear, then going with a super nice fork up front is always optimal. Pearce splurged for the best RockShox fork money could buy and went with the RockShox Lyrik Ultimate which has the amazing Charger 2.1 RC2 damper. This combined with the plus tires and CushCore is going to be a freaking smoooooth ride. Slowing down this beast is important, and Pearce wanted to go with something different than what's usually seen and chose TRP Quadiem brakes with 203mm rotors front and rear. These stoppers feel awesome and are definitely contenders for the best brakes on the market. Power, modulation and mineral oil gives these brakes quite the cult following on the internet.
The drivetrain consists of SRAM GX Eagle everything other than the RaceFace cranks which are mated to a purple Blackspire chainring. This is a tried and trued setup and definitely an amazing "bang for your buck" setup. He wanted a super reliable dropper post, so we recommended our shop favorite Fox Transfer Post in 150mm of drop with a purple Chromag NQR seatpost clamp to add even more flair to the overall bike. Speaking of flair, the cockpit gives Pearce the view of some purple Chromag FU40 handlebars and seafoam teal PNW Loam Grips. Yep, that's a comfy cockpit and finished off this overall awesome and unique build.
"Pearce, thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to build such a unique bike with you! The final result was AWESOME!"
